Hey guess what?!!!!! My roommate and homiest of homeboys Wes Allen (or "Brittle Bone" when he's rapping) went to Portland. Luckily he wasn't plagued with a streak of rainy weather as I was when I went up there mid July, so he got a bunch of footage. Madafaku took the train up there, which is the scenic route. You'll notice they hung out with a close-to-three-hunnid-pounder juggalette on the way there...

Have you ever lurked on the many pages of www.rapbay.com? Being the one of the few (or perhaps the only) Bay Area rap music and culture retail websites/marketplaces, there are many gems to be seen. I found this great new album cover that I'd like to share with you:
Perhaps one of the most down-to-earth and heartfelt album covers I have ever seen in "hip-hop". HD (and perhaps guapale as well) simply feel strongly about their paper. This is a couple weeks old so I'm a little late as far as blogging goes, but nevertheless still a classic.

Yo but anyways I went to San Francisco for a few days and hung out with this dude:
The weather was mostly shitty in SF so we went to Oakland for a day to hang out in the sun and go to this strange dinner party. It was in this baller apartment on the 6th floor of a very tall building.
I bought this drink. It cost me only one dollar!!!

This dude named Quelle lived there, who apparently produced half of the Danny Brown "Hybrid" album. He's from Detroit himself. He mentioned working with J. Dilla and Roc Marciano as well, so you know I was semi-starstruck. Here's a (shitty) pic of me and him. You know folks had to roll up on the album cover afterwards, too:

Portland trip

Me and Peter went up to Portland to kick it with Jack and Isaac who just moved up there and have a place. It was raining a good amount but nevertheless we managed to film some stuff. Shouts out to Isaac and Jack for being good hosts and showing us a good time up there!!

I usually hate taking photos while I'm traveling, so I only took approximately 4 photos while in Portland:

The "steampunk" section at Powell's. Powell's Books is the biggest bookstore on the West Coast. It's huge. It's at least 5 stories high, and there's another Powell's annex across the street that just sells the technical books such as math and science.
The legendary but yet still underground rapper C-Bo (personal favorite) was actually performing in Portland on the 22nd of July. I left on the 20th, so I missed it... I imagine that these days, C-Bo's performances are few and far between (or nearly nonexistent) and always in small clubs.

Here's that bump over sidewalk and grass that Mike Anderson straight no-complys over in a recent Krooked ad.

This is their dark apartment. I think they highly dislike it, although they signed a 9 month lease.

I found out about this one man music project called No Gang Colors the other day while listening to my new favorite rap-related podcast, Stay Hatin. It's basically various mixes/compilations of metal and rap that have been chopped-n-screwed, or in the words of Joseph Ohegyi (the creator of No Gang Colors and various other projects), "dragged and chopped". I love this shit because it sounds absolutely morbid, but in a "beautiful" sort of way. I guess that sounds pretty damn gay but that's okay because I'm nerding out pretty hard right now. This music sounds highly seductive; I imagine this is the sort of music that the devil makes, like music that might come from fucking hell, like OMG breh, totally darker and crazier than black metal, dude...
Anyways check out this mix called 666 mixes for cash (the cover is at the top of this post), an album that's title is a play on Aphex Twin's 26 mixes for cash, which is also worth checking out.
The song Money Weed Blow is what sold me, with a verse from Project Pat as the "driving force" of the song. This is kinda what they call "mash-up" music, with a bunch of different songs craftfully mixed together. That original verse came from some mixtape of mostly Juicy J (one half of modern day Three 6 Mafia) and French Montana, whom I believe collaborated together to make 2 or three mixtapes altogether. Project Pat always has the best guest verses on most songs he's featured on, though.
Also, if you got the got damn time, check out "Hellawayne II: Dragged and Chopped" as well. Just the Waka Flocka song that comes on first, "Uh Huh", is what makes the album. "I got three jobs: stunt, stunt, stunt, stunt" It's also got a chopped and screwed version of Project Pat's "Red Rum", which is excellent. Project Pat is pretty much the best rapper ever, though.
If you haven't heard it yet, listen to Famlay and Project Pat's collaboration, "Money Makin Trick", too. It's tight!!!!! Best song to come out this year, maybe???????? Who cares!!!

The homie Ryan, AKA Vanilla Ice Cream, or Bobo Mane, got himself a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree after years of hard work. He added it up, and figured out he'd been in school more than 23 years; pretty much the same goes for myself. SSU is also my alma mater, and is a wretched school that I don't recommend going to, but thats just my opinion. Actually, its not that bad, and I recommend getting a college degree, but I don't recommend going to school. That shit sucks!

Anyways, there was a BFA art show at the SSU art department that he was in. His art is pretty cool. Check it:

I especially like Lord Infamous's gillie-suit and baseball bat combo. Always the most avant-garde of the group when it came to style and rapping, at one point in the early 2000's Infamous had a needle-like long piece of metal piercing his nose, much like the natives when they pierce their noses with pieces of bone. Look at that thing! And check out that bucket cap (currently not so fashionable anymore in hip hop, it seems..)! Lord Infamous looks stoned as all hell right here. He currently owns and runs a record label called Black Rain, and his signature piercing seems to have disappeared for now.

The homie Saif's company, Pleasant Boards, came out with a full length video with parts from the whole team a while back. Like three months ago, or something. But anyways, Whine Country was made possible by the collaboration of Saif and notorious Santa Rosa rude bwoy/filmer/badass Isaac Nielsen. I'd like to say the video is pretty damn good, but it's my friends company and that's what I'm supposed to say... right? Regardless of all that shit, the video is really good, and much of it's rewatchability is due to Isaac's choice editing and all around putting-together of the video. In this day and age, so many potentially good videos with amazing footage are ruined due to shitty, overdone editing that takes away the rawness and the connection between regular skaters (like me or you!) and the skaters being filmed. Oh, and may I mention shitty music as well. Skaters, or film-makers, or a combination of the two, seem to have the worst/corniest("hella gay") taste in music as of late. The worst is that folk revivalist shit. Anyways, see now, the Pleasant video has some decent music in it, with my biggest props in musical choice going to Kevin Belew and Pat Gould for the second song of their part (IT'S MURDA!!!!). Made a short and harrowing trip down to Escondido (north of San Diego, CA) a couple weeks ago. Weather was beautiful everyday. The 10 hour drive down there, however, can be far from pleasant. On the I-5 going through the Central Valley I couldn't stop thinking about how at least 90% of the nation's crystal meth supply is made there (a geographically HUGE area) in so called Mexican-run "superlabs". Most of these clandestine laboratories are hidden in sheds and barns nestled amongst the farmland and orchards of this agricultural region.
But anyways, I took some shitty pictures...

I went camping up in the Marin headlands once. It's nice, but rabbits are swarming everywhere when you try to hike out of there in the morning fog. Kinda like something out of the X-files, breh.
It was Alex's birthday on the 30th, which I didn't realize until I got there. Embarrassed and stressed about coming to his house empty handed, I frantically searched for a suitable gift soon after I arrived. I found the perfect thing: what better than some art I found on somebody's doorstep?! However, we didn't have mutual feelings on the value of this piece (I thought it was good enough that he could at least cover up the pictures of Lil Wayne and Kanye on his wall with it) and he promptly threw it away. Well, shucks, atleast I didn't bring him the other paintings that said "don't ask why" and "I wish I didn't feel pain". Word? Me too!

Two of my fellow artists/goons/skater friends of mine run some pretty tight lil' independent skateboard companies around here in Sonoma County. Saif is the owner and proprietor of Pleasant Skateboards, while Julia is the owner and proprietor of Sloth Skateboards. I've ridden both of their wood (no homo) and I'm fully backing both of 'em. They also make some pretty cool art. Their artsy stuff and that of a bunch of other folks we know from the Santa Rosa scene are going to be in the "Pleasant Family Art Show", happening on October 23rd. Hope y'all can attend!!!!

Most of these photos are from my phone, which is a piece of shit. You can't even upload them to the computer with it, so I had to send them to my friend Alex (thanks bro), who owns an iPhone that then send all the photos to my email. Ahhh, the infinite pleasures and uses for technology. Perhaps someday I'll own a smartphone, or maybe even a Blackberry. Or a Blueberry! Or a STRAWBERRY!!

Went on a trip to Portland for a week a while back this summer. Not sure why I'm posting this over a month after the trip but all of the pictures came off of Chris' camera and he enjoys getting irie so that probably has something to do with the delay in time. The last time I was given the green light on a guest road trip post (if you recall the road soda pictures on the Pleasant site) it was deleted after a few days and someone left a comment saying something along the lines of 'worst post ever' so I'm feeling a bit timid sitting in front of the computer and a little stressed trying to layout a blog post (I've been out of school for a bit so the run-on sentences will be heavily peppered throughout this post). I would appreciate it if you would leave some comments and please go easy on the hating (there's a lot of that going around right now and I'm one of the few who doesn't love that type of crowd, so go easy). There are a lot of pictures so I'll be posting the trip in sections. First and foremost I am going to come out and say that the act of skateboarding is completely fucking boring so there will absolutely be no pictures of skating or any of that bullshit 'round heeyah, kid. First post is going to be all Joey and he's not exactly the best looking guy in the world so bare wit me hollatchaboiii.

If you're calling ABD on this one its actually slightly different than the first picture. If you're actually really concerned with ABDazzles then (not than, idiots) you should actually look into what has been done down the SRHS eight stair and probably never go back to it. More Portland pictures to come in the future (I would say near future but what with the skateboarding being on the internet these days that would mean three hours from now) and I heard something about a tour video in the works. The dudes on this trip either smoke weed or aren't all that bright to begin with so not more than (and NO not then) likely I'll be the one having to capture and edit all of the garbage that will eat up even more memory off of my computer.

I apologize for not updating the blog recently. School is nuts; makes you go crazy and takes up a lot of time. I think I'm gonna start calling Sonoma State "cali fag district" (please do not catch feelings because I used the fag word) in homage to all the fruity clothes that guys wear there and also because we all love that hot new slumper "teach me how to dougie", by Cali Swag District. Whats up with all this jerkin' rap? I hear Cali Swag District is from Victorville, California. If I lived in Victorville I would probably go crazy and start a jerkin rap group too...

I did it once and the hangover the next day was definitely not worth it. But then again, I'm not a rapper and I don't like feeling like I'm about to fall asleep all day off that sizzurp and cali weed. I also think that Jim Jones of the Diplomats may be one of the worst or most annoying well-paid/popular rappers out there right now. Anybody care to agree with me? Also, why was the best rapper in the Diplomats crew, Cam'ron, excluded from the video?

Cali Swag District: A Bay Area State Of Mind

I decided to get out of town for a few days and journeyed to the secluded part of Richmond known as Point Richmond, or "the point". My friend Alex (AKA Larry Poppins when he's doing his rap thing) is staying at house overlooking the bay there. It's a world of its own, not even connected to the city of Richmond. I think the town is entirely populated by older white folks who don't even talk to each other or something. It's quaint, historic, and of course fucking BOOOORRRIIIINNNNGGGG. But we popped bottles, relaxed in a leisurely manner, and had the time of our lives.
